This morning was the first day of school. Once again, public transportation. I had spent a lot of time writing down my entire TRAX and Front Runner schedule the week before. So confidently I got on the Front Runner as usual.
Read MoreAs we left the airport, Shilo’s duck-taped box which held Catch Phrase and bubble wrap started beeping like a bomb. The guy going through our luggage started looking really nervous and backing away, while Shilo frantically tore her box open to show that it was a timer, and not a bomb. There were several military personnel holding guns stations outside the airport. A most foreboding welcome to a country, don’t you think?
Read MoreI’m now flying over the Gulf of Mexico on a tiny plane on our way to the Tuxtla, Mexico Airport. It was so hot and humid as soon as we got to Texas. There were trees all over from my plane window. I guess I didn’t realize how far south Houston is and how close to the coast it is. I kind of expected to see cactus everywhere. We rode on this tram thing to get to our next gate. The Houston airport was HUGE! I thought that the Salt Lake Airpot was big because it was an international one, but it’s nothing compared to others I now know. We found bathrooms and a drinking fountain, which took forever. You’d think you would be able to find drinking fountains easily in an airport. Not the case. Micadyn said, “They don’t have drinking fountains because you just need to drink the air.” It was SO humid. I’m glad we’re not going to the humid part of Mexico. We’ll be up 9,000 ft.

Before you serve internationally, you are required to do a set amount of service hours locally to earn a sponsorship which will help you pay for the trip.

I never get tired of going to the Pet Store to look at the animals. It’s like the zoo, but on a lesser and more close-up scale. Although I do love the zoo (my family got a season pass this year and I’ve been like five times already). This time they had lots of baby animals. They were so cute!
